The STEM Education for Empowerment Project (STEEP) is a three-year $4 million CAD initiative funded by the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada (GAC) and The Barrett Family Foundation (BFF). The Humber Polytechnic leads the project under the project management of the International Development Institute (IDI) and is supported by implementing partners CAP Youth Empowerment Institute in Kenya, and HaHuJobs in Ethiopia.

STEEP will provide vital training and support to equip girls from low-income and vulnerable communities in Kenya and Ethiopia with the interest, skills, and confidence to pursue studies and/or employment in STEM. The proposed four-year STEEP will enhance gender equality and empower adolescent girls between 14 and 18 years, a critical life stage when interest and STEM enrollment rates drop. The project is designed to reach and appeal to marginalized girls in semi-urban pilot regions in Ethiopia and Kenya.
